Open Question: Why do people seem to make a big deal out of guys wearing boots?

I'm a guy in my early 30's from Michigan and I like wearing boots, Cowboy or Harness boots. I own like 8 or 7 pairs of cowboy boots. To me there comfortable, make feel like a bad ass , and just cool looking. I guess I have a bit of a fetish, I mean there kind of a turn on to wear too. In public no one usually says anything or I get complements. At work(I do factory type work) and I always get comments like "dont those things hurt ur back or feet" or get weird looks, I've even earned the nicknames George Bush and Texas Ranger LOL. Sneakers do nothing for me, they just fall apart and I've had more problems with sport shoes then I have ever with boots. So its like, Why the big deal?
